The karst limestone habitats of Guanxi province in China are home to several threatened trees, including rare magnolias and conifers. Guanxi Forestry Bureau is planning to develop a Provincial Strategy and Action Plan for Plant Conservation, with the aim of increasing plant conservation in the province and improving cooperation between NGOS, authorities and research institutions. The Global Trees Campaign are working closely with the Guanxi Forestry Bureau to develop this plan.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Guanxi Province in China has important karst limestone habitat and is also a top priority for threatened tree conservation, particularly magnolias and conifers. FFI has been active in Guanxi Province for several years, working on primate conservation and other issues, and has developed an excellent working relationship with the Provincial Forestry Bureau.

During 2009 and 2010, Guanxi Forestry Bureau is planning to develop a Provincial Strategy and Action Plan for Plant Conservation, aiming to increase plant conservation activity and improve cooperation with research institutes, government departments and NGOs. They are very keen to collaborate closely with the Global Trees Campaign, who will ensure the appropriate priorities and activities for tree conservation are incorporated in the strategy.

This project will be an excellent basis for the development of further tree conservation activities in this high priority Province.
