In association with the Forestry Commission, Fauna & Flora International’s SoundWood programme will present celebrated Brazilian jazz vocalist Mônica Vasconcelos and her band Nóis in support of legendary jazz saxophonist Courtney Pine at a summer evening jazz concert in the heart of Thetford Forest, in support of global tree conservation.
Mônica and Nóis are helping to launch the forthcoming Sounds of the Forest project which will take place in São Paulo Brazil in September this year. The project is generously funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and has been organised by our local Brazilian partners Amainan Brasil. Sounds of the Forest provides an important first step towards introducing themes of sustainable production and certification of timber within the Brazilian music industry, and aims to encourage responsible stewardship over the environment amongst the Brazilian people. The event at Thetford Forest will provide a voice in support of environmental conservation in Brazil amongst a UK audience; the primary end-users of tropical hardwood products and prominent lovers of world music. Artists in support of SoundWood will also play at the Sounds of the Forest event in São Paulo reinforcing the link between SoundWood's activities in Brazil and those in the UK.
