Established as a joint initiative between the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and Fauna & Flora International, the Flagship Species Fund provides practical support to the conservation of endangered species and their habitats in developing countries.
Flagships are high profile and charismatic species that may play a significant ecological role and often have important cultural associations. Since its inception, the Flagship Species Fund has made 104 awards to projects operating in 38 countries working with 80 local organizations involved in the conservation of 60 threatened species. Trees are currently one of the priority groups supported by the fund and they have supported a number of GTC projects over the years.
