CURRENT GIFTS:
The dense Chocó forest of South America is a unique and diverse habitat, home to a large number of species including howler monkeys, tree frogs, orchids and macaws. However, intense logging has left large forested areas in a degraded state and several tree species, particularly native ones, seriously threatened.
Your gift will support the planting of rare tree species by local school children, meaning that you will also be helping to educate the next generation about how to conserve the forest into the future.
The Monkey Puzzle can live for up to 1,000 years, reach heights of 100 ft and grow as far south as trees can grow. No wonder, perhaps, that it is such an odd looking tree - it’s had to be tough, tall and spiky to get this far!
Although a garden favourite in the UK this quirky tree is at risk of extinction in its natural habitat of Southern Chile and Argentina due to logging and land clearance.
Your gift will help the people in the village of Villa Araucaria to secure land for planting, to grow new seedlings and to plant and care for the young monkey puzzle trees.
The forests of Southern Belize are home to a dazzling array of plants and animals, from jaguar and ocelot to tapirs, spider monkeys and stunning blue morpho butterflies. However, much of the forest has been destroyed or damaged by logging, commercial citrus growing and shrimp farming.
Your gift will help restore fantastic tropical species such as mahogany and rosewood to the forest where they will grow and support a wealth of other plants and animals. It will also support conservation education for local children, which will ensure that this beautiful forest is protected long into the future by the people who live closest to it.
Conifers are amazing: the world's tallest, largest and oldest living things are conifer trees; they are essential parts of the ecosystems in which they live and also provide excellent timber, as well as a wealth of other products.
Vietnam is a ‘hot-spot’ for conifers with 28 unique species, but five of these species have become very rare in recent years due to a range of threats. Our tree planting programme is one of the last hopes to save these ancient trees from extinction.
Your gift will be help to restore the wild populations of these charismatic and rare conifer trees in Vietnam, helping to save them from extinction.
